COBRA-OS — Resuscitative Endovascular Balloon Occlusion of the Aorta (REBOA)

COBRA-OS is a next-generation resuscitative endovascular balloon occlusion of the aorta (REBOA) system designed for the management of life-threatening haemorrhage in trauma and emergency medicine. Developed to provide rapid, effective haemorrhage control in both hospital and pre-hospital environments, COBRA-OS represents a critical advancement in damage control resuscitation.

What is REBOA?

REBOA is a minimally invasive technique used to temporise non-compressible haemorrhage by inserting a balloon catheter into the aorta to reduce blood flow to the site of injury. It provides haemodynamic stabilisation while the patient is prepared for definitive surgical intervention. The COBRA-OS system is engineered to make this procedure faster, safer, and more accessible for trauma teams.

Designed for the Trauma Environment

COBRA-OS features a simplified deployment design that supports rapid insertion with minimal training burden — a critical consideration in high-pressure trauma scenarios. Its compact packaging and streamlined workflow are designed to reduce time to deployment, which is directly associated with improved patient outcomes in major haemorrhage.

COBRA-OS — Clinical Evidence and Context

REBOA (Resuscitative Endovascular Balloon Occlusion of the Aorta) has become an established tool in the management of non-compressible torso haemorrhage in major trauma. The COBRA-OS system is designed to address the key barriers that have historically limited REBOA adoption — insertion complexity, time to deployment, and training requirements.

COBRA-OS — System Advantages

Simplified Insertion Design: The COBRA-OS catheter system is engineered for rapid deployment with a streamlined insertion technique, reducing time to haemorrhage control in critical patients.

Low-Profile Sheath: Designed to reduce vascular access complications associated with REBOA procedures.

Intuitive Balloon Control: Clear volume indicators and controlled inflation mechanism reduce the risk of inadvertent over-inflation.

Compact Packaging: Designed for immediate availability in trauma bays, emergency departments, and operating theatres.

COBRA-OS — Who Uses It?

Trauma Surgeons and Emergency Physicians: For in-hospital haemorrhage control during damage control resuscitation prior to definitive surgical intervention.

Pre-Hospital Services: Selected trauma services are evaluating REBOA in the pre-hospital environment for major haemorrhage control in penetrating and blunt trauma.

Anaesthetists and Interventional Teams: For intraoperative haemorrhage control in complex surgical cases.
